Budgeting Benefits
How Budgeting Can Work For You
Budgeting is often viewed as one of those "last resort", painful chores, left to be done when you find that you've run out of money and don't know why. Whilst especially useful in a situation like that, budgeting holds many benefits for you, both short and long term, regardless of your financial position.
A budget is a money plan that allows you to plan and achieve what you want from your money. It is never too early, or for that matter, too late to start managing your money with a budget.
Some of the greatest (and most common) benefits of budgeting are:
Knowing where your money is going
Chances are that you have a rough idea of where your money is going at the moment, but it's also likely that you are spending much more on certain things that you think you are. Budgeting is also a valuable self-education tool, which shows you how much money you have, where it is going and where it is going to have to go in the future. Knowing where your money is going gives you the power to take control of your money.
Control
Is having power over your money, rather that your money having control over you. Control allows you to decide how you want your money to work for you, whether it be saving, investing or eliminating debt - you will have the power to decide what your money does and when. Having control of your money allows you to take advantage of opportunities you might not previously have been able to.
Freedom and Opportunity
Having your money under control will bring new freedom and opportunities. There might have been opportunities that you may have missed because you weren't sure you could afford them - such as the opportunity to save for a house, or a car, or to invest. Budgeting and managing your money better provides you with the freedom to use it in whichever manner you choose, and know that you will be able to afford it.
Extra Money $$$
There are lots of ways in which planning your money better can save you money. Some examples are:
- Paying your insurance once a year: because you might be paying an extra $10 per month (or quarter) to pay more regularly.
- Paying your credit card off in-full each month: saves you in interest and fees.
- Paying your bills on time: Saves you heaps in late/overdue fees. Budgeting allows you to plan for your bills before you get them!
These three examples alone can save you hundreds of dollars a year! For more money-saving tips, tools and articles become a Clever with Cash member!
Not only can budgeting save you money like in the examples above, but when you combine budgeting with opportunities such as investment you have the ability to make more money!
Organisation
This can be achieved through budgeting because it will provide you with a better system of managing the details of your incomes, expenses and savings. You can choose the level and complexity of this organisation to suit your wants and needs.
Communication
Communication regarding money is very important, especially when you consider that it, and the issues surrounding it, are one of the most common reasons that relationships fail. A budget can help you to communicate your ideas to someone else, allowing the both of you to discuss what you want to do with your money. It providers you with a plan that both of you should be able to understand - your financial position, your goals and what you have to do to achieve them.
